A spectacular journey through 150 years of the Port of Felixstowe, blending history, music, dance and technology into an unforgettable celebration of past, present and future.
To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Port of Felixstowe, our client approached us to curate an evening of live performances at Greenwich’s iconic Old Royal Naval College. The event took guests on a journey through time, celebrating the port’s rich history from its founding in 1875 through to the present day and looking to the future.
Performing background music to set the atmosphere, we had our string quartet Halo performing music from the late 1800s. Soprano Laura Wright followed with a stunning rendition of Habanera from Carmen, an opera that premiered in the same year that the port was established.
The entertainment then moved into the 20th century with a vibrant Charleston dance performance from the 1920s, followed by 1940s-inspired close-harmony trio, “The Bluebirds” performing classic wartime songs. The energy then ramped up with a dynamic flashmob inspired by the music and dance styles of the 1960s and 70s, engaging the audience in a celebration of cultural evolution.
To represent the present day and look ahead to the future, LED dance troupe Globacks then lit up the stage with a high-energy, futuristic performance. The evening concluded with a state-of-the-art drone show, featuring synchronised formations that incorporated the port’s logos and visual motifs, symbolising its legacy and ongoing innovation.
This unique event seamlessly blended history, music, and technology to honour 150 years of Britain’s busiest container port.
