Brief
To mark 40 years in the business, caterer Moving Venue sought a bold, theatrical centrepiece for their milestone celebration — a showstopping performance that captivates their guests at a high-profile events industry gathering.
Approach
We collaborated closely with the client, who came to us with a strong creative vision for both the aesthetic and musical direction. Drawing inspiration from the decadent world of Chicago and the provocative energy of Cabaret, we developed a bespoke performance that seamlessly blended two iconic, yet stylistically distinct musicals.
The challenge lay in uniting the glamour of 1920s Chicago with the edgy, avant-garde atmosphere of the Kit Kat Club. This was achieved through Fosse-inspired choreography and a bold, unified visual language that tied the contrasting themes together.
Casting, choreography and musical arrangements were devised in association with Ashley, out creative director. Rehearsals took place over several days at the Grade II-listed Battersea Arts Centre.
Outcome
The final performance delivered high visual impact, brought to life through meticulous styling. A sleek, all-black costume palette featured diverse textures – leather, lace, mesh, and fishnet – creating a striking and sensual aesthetic. Hair and makeup took cues from iconic stage and film interpretations of both shows, offering a subtle homage to legendary performers while maintaining a contemporary, corporate-appropriate edge.
The result was a daring yet refined interpretation of two theatrical classics, a fusion of faded glamour and polished performance that wowed the audience and perfectly marked Moving Venue’s 40-year milestone.
